THE GARMENTS
SERIES: THE PRIEST AND HIS GARMENTS. LESSON 6.
LINEN BREECHES.
The Linen Breeches. Ex.28:42-43; 39:28.
1. Speaks of finished work of Calvary (cross), foundation experience.
Result of first sin - nakedness.
God's provision - slain lamb, coats for covering.
2. No flesh to be seen in our priestly ministry.
Fine twined Linen. Ex.39:28.
Speaks of righteousness in every minute detail - fine twined,
to cover our flesh before putting on the garment of beauty and glory.
Nothing against skin to cause sweat. Ezek.44:18.
Speaks of an absence of works of the flesh in our service to God.
Sweat is the result of the curse.
Carrying the Ashes, Lev,6:10.
Speaks of Resurrection, and used for the cleansing of the leper.
Typical of our foundation experience, of the cross and being grounded
in its teaching that we may bear the message of the Resurrection, and
cleansing of the Sinner.
Worn on Day of Atonement by High Priest. Lev.16:4.
EMBROIDERED LINEN COAT.
Linen Coat. Ex.28:4, 39-40.
Speaks of Righteousness. Both Priest and High Priest wore this garment.
High Priest. Typifying Christ. Ex.28:4, 39:27.
Embroidered, woven work. From a distance it appears like any other coat.
Embroidered work seen close up. Speaks of Jesus appeared to be just a man,
but after the resurrection, we see Him as God manifested in the flesh. His
beauty is seen as we experience Him.
Lev.16:4 Holy Linen Coat. A garment of Holiness.
Ex.28:39 Fine Linen - Righteousness in every detail of His Life.
Linen (White) - Christ's righteousness, Rev.1: 13-14, 19:8.
Lev.16:4 High Priest only wore this garment into the Most Holy Place.
Significant of Christ laying aside His garments of beauty and glory, laying
aside His reputation. Only Linen coat - speaks of Christ dying - pure, holy
and Righteous.
Priest. Typifying the Believer.
This garment speaks of the putting on of Christ and all that this garment is
significant of. He is our Righteousness. 1 Cor.1:30.
LINEN GIRDLE.
Linen Girdle. Ex.28:40, 39:29, Priestly sign of service.
Priest. Typifying the believer.
Fine twined linen speaks of the works of Righteousness.
Blue, purple, scarlet, needlework speaks of the Character and Nature of God
entwined in all our service towards God.
Luke 12:35 "loins be girded" as engaged in the master's work. Active in
service - faithful in testimony.
l Pet.1:13 "Gird loins of mind", "Girdle was to gather loose robes in
service" - gather loose thoughts with fine Linen - Righteousness,
blue, scarlet, purple.
Eph.6:13-14 "gird loins with truth" for battle.
Girdle of truth. Eph.6:13-14.
strength. Psa.18:32.
gladness. Psa.30:11, Deut.28:47.
High Priest. Typifying Christ.
This girdle which the High Priest wore under the other garments was unseen.
Speaks of Christ's inward work in our lives. He works on our behalf though
not seen.
Maketh intercession on our behalf. The outer girdle speaks of His service
that can be seen.
BONNET FOR THE PRIEST.
Bonnet. Ex.28:40,39:28.
Speaks of covering for mind and subjection.
1. Means - "Elevation"' speaks of the high calling of the Priesthood,
its high qualification and standards.
2. Godly, Ex.39:28 means "tire" Ezek.24:17 "ornaments" Isa.61:10,
"beauty" Isa.61:3.
For glory and beauty, Ex.28:40. Bonnets were white - didn't appear
to look much. But true complete subjection to God may be little
admired by man, but beautiful in the sight of God. 1 Pet.3:3-5,
ornaments within.
Speaks of subjection. 1Cor. 11. In subjection to Christ in all
things.
"Put" Ex.29:9, Lev.8:13 means - bind, rolls of fine linen around
head.
Mind and thoughts covered, secured with heavy covering of
righteousness, Rom.8:6, 11 Cor.10:4-5, Isa.26;3, Rom.12:16,
11 Cor.13:11, 11 Tim.1:7.
